Floating Stones
Art has to be forgotten. Beauty must be realized.
Piet Mondriaan
On the occasion of the annual outdoor exhibition “Kunst Natuurpark Lelystad” of the Artist Association Flevoland, I created the artwork Floating Stones in the summer of 2020.
On the potter’s wheel I formed a series of hollow bodies with a diameter between 30 and 50 cm, which after firing hardly differ from natural stones in terms of shape and colour. Fired at high temperature, these “hollow stones” are both waterproof and frost resistant, but unlike real stones, they float on water.
At the bottom of each stone, I modelled two eyelets from clay to connect the Floating Stones under the water surface (and invisible to visitors) with the help of a strong, transparent nylon thread.
NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE is a brief summary of what I have learned and taken with me in 1 ½ years of living in Nepal and India. With my artwork Floating Stones I have tried to make something tangible and visible that we all know deep in our heart is true.
Between June and November 2020 my Floating Stones swam on a beautiful lake between water lilies at Natuurpark Lelystad. Meanwhile, the artwork has returned into my possession.
The Floating Stones are available in all sizes between 10 and 80 cm and are suitable for a public space in a municipality or city, but also as decoration for a house or for a garden pond.
