Creating an Urn Workshop

Have you ever thought about the possibility of designing or co-designing the urn for your deceased loved one together within a small circle of family members or closest friends?

Atelier ANNUSCH offers both the space and the appropriate ambience to create a unique artwork in the form of an urn together in a small and private sphere, in remembrance of the deceased.

What does the workshop include?

  • Choosing your favourite form and design of the urn from a wide variety of models
  • Decorating the hand-thrown urn with self-made shapes and symbols of beautifully coloured porcelain
  • Delicious refreshments like coffee, tea and homemade cake
  • A fired and glazed masterpiece (to be collected at a later date)

To be creative together in close, familiar company can support the process of saying goodbye in a wonderful way.

In advance, you get the opportunity to choose the appropriate basic shape of the urn from ANNUSCH’s wide range of products. At the agreed time, the chosen vessel will then be waiting for you in ANNUSCH’s studio, bare and unfired, ready to be decorated by you together during this unique workshop.

After a warm welcome with coffee, tea and homemade cake, you have the opportunity to get a short demonstration on the potter’s wheel, which can give you a vivid impression of how the shape of your chosen urn has been created.

Next, you will get creative yourself with the help of ANNUSCH’s homemade porcelain clay; available in a wide range of colours – from cherry red to Prussian blue.

In addition to the conventional rolling pin, numerous small, fancy cookie cutters and special, hand-carved wooden stamps serve as tools with the help of which, under professional guidance and in loving cooperation, the urn is designed together.

After agreeing on the colours and the design of the urn, you create flowers, patterns and symbols by assembling cutout or self-designed shapes, and attach them to the leather-hard clay of the urn with simple clay slip.
Slowly but surely, the urn grows into an enchanting, three-dimensional mandala or a dreamy landscape with butterflies, bees and beautiful flowers.

At the end of the workshop you will be amazed at what you have created together in such a short period of time. Such a unique and personal urn cannot be purchased anywhere, and in addition you will keep the memory of a special afternoon in familiar circle and in grateful remembrance of the beloved.

For this workshop no experience is necessary.
ANNUSCH’s beautiful and unique studio can accommodate up to 8 participants per urn workshop. In fine weather, work can also be done outside on the roof terrace.

The workshop starts at 2 pm and finishes at 5 pm, unless otherwise agreed. The price includes tuition, all materials and the use of tools and equipment, the glazing and firing of the urn, as well as drinks and pastries.

By the way, clay and porcelain stains can be easily removed in the wash. Nevertheless, there is absolutely no need to turn up at the workshop in your very best clothes!
