Pottery Throwing Taster
Have you always wanted to try to throw your very own piece of pottery on a traditional potter’s wheel? Or model a ceramics object?
This full day pottery workshop is an ideal opportunity to both relax and playfully learn several goes of the fascinating technique of making pots from clay with or without the help of the potter’s wheel – together with a small group of colleagues, friends or family.
Pot throwing is a lot of fun, mainly because the focus switches from thinking to feeling. Through “listening“ with hands, arms and body in order to find the centre from which a pot arises, one automatically settles down in the here and now, connecting with oneself and with the element earth. All of this brings a lot of joy and strength, and in the longer run also leads to valuable life skills like perseverance, patience and determination.
ANNUSCH’s beautiful and unique studio offers eight potter’s wheels and therefor space for up to eight participants per workshop.
If you would like to book as a larger group, we can extend the workshop to up to 14 participants by combining the throwing course with a modelling workshop with home-made, coloured porcelain, which can then also be used to decorate the self-made pots. If you are interested, please contact me via hello@annusch.com
You can book the workshop:
- as a creative team event for your company party, company outing, birthday party, bachelor party (…see also my One-day ceramic workshop for large and small groups: Creating an artwork together)
What does the workshop include?
- Throwing bowls and upright pots
- On request: decorating the pots and modelling beads or key rings with coloured porcelain
- Coffee, tea and self-made cake as well as delicious refreshments during the day
- Per participant five masterpieces fired and glazed (to be collected at a later date)
How is it structured?
The workshop starts at 10 am and finishes at 4 pm, with one hour lunch break in between. It includes tuition, all materials and the use of tools and equipment, as well as the glazing and firing of five self-made pots and bowls per paricipant, and food plus drinks.
Beginning with a welcome tea or coffee, you will receive a group demonstration of the pot throwing process. After that your own hands-on wheel session starts, with expertise guidance in how to centre the clay, open it up and turn it into vessels.
Is any pottery experience necessary?
For this course no experience is necessary.
Learning the technique of throwing pots with the potter’s wheel is at the beginning often anything but easy. Anyhow, by the end of the day and with professional guidance you will have made all sorts of pots from which you may choose five masterpieces which you can pick up about two weeks later, high-fired and glazed in ANNUSCH’s famous Turkish blue.
Pot throwing is a mucky business, so make sure that you wear flat shoes and that you don’t come in your best clothes!
What does the event cost?
The price as a group starts at €2000 and will be agreed individually according to the number of participants or any personal adjustments and wishes. In case of a booking, you will be contacted soon to arrange a date for this unique Pottery Throwing Taster.
The day includes homemade cake, tea and coffee as well as nice refreshments and drinks, served either in the atmospheric studio or outside on the beautiful roof terrace, overlooking both the beach and the centre of Almere Haven.
