Floating Stones
Art has to be forgotten. Beauty must be realized.
Piet Mondriaan
On the occasion of the annual outdoor exhibition “Kunst Natuurpark Lelystad” of the Artist Association Flevoland, I created the artwork Floating Stones in the summer of 2020.
On the potter’s wheel I formed a series of hollow bodies with a diameter between 30 and 50 cm, which after firing hardly differ from natural stones in terms of shape and color. Fired at high temperature, these “hollow stones” are both waterproof and frost resistant, but unlike real stones, they float on water.
At the bottom of each stone, I modeled two eyelets from clay to connect the Floating Stones under the water surface (and invisible to visitors) with the help of a strong, transparent nylon thread.
NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE is a brief summary of what I have learned and taken with me in 1 ½ years of living in Nepal and India. With my artwork Floating Stones I have tried to make something tangible and visible that we all know deep in our heart is true.
Between June and November 2020 my Floating Stones were displayed in a beautiful lake between water lilies at Natuurpark Lelystad. Since September 2026, the artwork has been given a new and permanent destination in the pond of De Wetering landscape park in Zeewolde, near the entrance to art pavilion De Verbeelding.
The Floating Stones are available in all sizes between 10 and 70 cm and are suitable for public space in a municipality or city, but also as decoration for your home or for a garden pond.
